Comfort - 5/5
Since I posted my comments, I've learned the inn has closed. Alas. My review in any case: A stay at the historic Williams River House is one of the best things you can do for yourself. One couldn't ask for more congenial hosts; Mark and Geof have the perfect personalities to be innkeepers. Whether walking the grounds; enjoying an open-pit fire on a specially built stone "terrace" alongside the river; imbibing a pint at their pub; relaxing in the tastefully appointed bedrooms or in any of the rooms in the inn or on their open porch overlooking the hills; or enjoying the spectacular food prepared on site by Mark, this is a retreat not to be missed. I've stayed at many inns around the country and this is my favorite by far.
My husband and I got married here in the Fall and they took care of everything! It was an exquisite setting for the perfect day! Mark and Geoff couldn't be more gracious and welcoming and the Inn is absolutely perfect! We are going back in the Fall and can't wait! The fireplace is to to die for and I could sit there for hours reading a book or watching a movie! The movie screen comes out of the ceiling but doesn't block the massive fireplace. Mark's french toast is to die for and I am not a big fan of french toast, just no words! The Inn is in a perfect location as we traveled around to explore other towns. They even took care of dinner reservations for us in nearby NH. I couldn't say more about the Inn or about the hosts. JUST GO!
This B&B is a hidden gem!! The hosts, Mark and Geoff, are just amazing, entertaining and accommodating (we arrived very late due to a last minute glitch, but Mark stayed up waiting for us). Most important of all, staying at the Williams River House was a historical experience as well since the house dates back to the 1700's: we learnt so much about early New England from our hosts. At first glance, you may find the inn a bit on the expensive side, but for a Vermont getaway in a beautiful, historic home in a gorgeous country setting, it is worth every cent.
Wow! factor - 5/5!!
